Kick-off starts with a required apprentice virtual orientation June 13.
This program is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment & Training Administration, Office of Apprenticeship.

At PHCC of Iowa, our mission is to empower individuals to uncover the potential of apprenticeships within the plumbing-heating-cooling trades. An apprenticeship offers a distinctive combination of online classroom instruction and hands-on training, fostering the development of essential skills and expertise in a specific trade or profession. Particularly in states like Iowa, apprenticeships serve as the gateway to obtaining licensure for a rewarding and enduring career in the plumbing, heating and cooling sectors. It provides an alternative avenue for secondary education, diverging from the traditional college path, enabling individuals to earn while they learn and laying a solid foundation for a prosperous future.

PHCC of Iowa is committed to ensuring that every student is informed about apprenticeship opportunities and equipped with the knowledge to pursue them effectively.

The PHCC Online Apprenticeship program utilizes the PHCC Academy materials developed through PHCC National. This program is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment & Training Administration, Office of Apprenticeship.

What To Expect From The Apprenticeship Program:

Over the course of the program, apprentices can anticipate nearly 4 years of online classes.

Students must complete on-the-job training hours in several categories throughout their apprenticeship.

If you feel like you already have a strong knowledge base, you have the option to test in at a higher level.

Course materials are developed by industry experts with support from PHCC of Iowa & PHCC National.

Apprenticeship has two components, RTI and OJT, and is a 4 year program. RTI is "classroom training" and OJT is "on the job training". Apprentices earn 144 in-person hours each year or 156 hours per year in the online program. (click here for more details about in-person classes)  OJT hours are earned by apprentices through their companies doing their day-to-day job. Currently, 8,000 hours over the course of the apprenticeship training is needed, or roughly 2,000 hours per year.

All apprentices, whether online or in-person, must be employed by a current PHCC of Iowa member company in order to participate. This status must be maintained throughout each year of apprenticeship.
